12th of December – Managing talent

Management is about an organisation’s ability to attract, develop and retain employees at all levels with the skills, commitment, values and behaviours needed both for current and future organisational success. Organisations vary in how they approach talent management. Some focus on individuals whose strengths and talents make a particular difference to an organisation, whose roles are business-critical in some way, or those who are deemed to have ‘high potential’ for the future. Other organisations choose an inclusive approach, exploring the talents of all their employees and looking at how they can further develop their strengths and enable them to achieve their potential. There is no right or wrong way, it just means that the focus is different. Clearly recruitment is a key part of the talent management process in either case. It is the means by which talented people are attracted and brought into the organisation–often referred to as the ‘talent pipeline’.
